A Self-Direction Broker acts as a guide, helping clients navigate the process of creating a personalized plan that fits their unique needs, goals, and lifestyle. This includes managing budgets, accessing resources, and coordinating care to ensure that individuals can live independently and make their own choices in their daily lives. The broker works closely with clients to understand their preferences and advocate for the right services to enhance their quality of life.

“I’m Joshua Burt, the founder of Brothers Brokerage and a dedicated self-direction broker. My journey into this
field started with my younger brother, Jacob, who has Down syndrome. Watching Jacob grow and thrive with the
support of self-direction services inspired me to help other families access the same life-changing opportunities.
I understand firsthand the challenges that come with navigating the OPWDD system, and I’m committed to guiding
families through it with compassion and expertise. Whether it’s building a Circle of Support, developing a person-
centered plan, or managing staff, I take pride in empowering individuals to take control of their lives and achieve their goals.

“I’m Allysa Manzi, and throughout my life, I’ve been deeply involved in the developmental disability
community. I’ve had the privilege of working in various roles, including as a Residential Counselor, in Respite,
Community Habilitation, and as an assistant teacher. My career has given me the opportunity to work for
organizations like Yedei Chesed, JM Murray, and The Center for Spectrum Services, all of which helped shape
my passion for this field.
