Budgeting & Financial FAQs
How is My Child's Budget Determined?
The Personal Resource Account (PRA) is determined annually through the Developmental Disabilities Profile (DDP-2), which assesses needs in areas such as medical, sensory/motor, cognitive/communication, behavior, and daily living skills.
What if I Don’t Use All the Money in the Budget?
Unused funds reset annually on the approval anniversary date. The budget will reset to the same amount the following year as long as you are still participating in Self-Direction.
What is the Housing Subsidy?
The OPWDD Housing Subsidy allows inclusion of rent or mortgage payments in the budget, with the participant contributing 30% of their SSI or income. The subsidy amount is based on income and location.
What are Individual Directed Goods and Services (IDGS)?
IDGS covers non-Medicaid services and items like community classes, health club memberships, and various therapies, provided they relate to a goal in the care plan and increase independence or community involvement.
What is Other Than Personal Services (OTPS)?
OTPS allows up to $3,000 for non-Medicaid fundable goods and services such as phone service, internet, staff activity fees, and personal transportation. Excluded items include medical expenses and experimental therapies.
How Does the Budget Process Work?
We assist in creating a self-direction budget, submitting it for approval, and managing ongoing expenses for services like staffing, community habilitation, and transportation.
