A Family’s Commitment to Self-Direction
My name is Joshua Burt, the founder of Brothers Brokerage, and my inspiration comes from my brother Jacob, who was born with Down syndrome. From a young age, I’ve not only been Jacob’s older brother but also his advocate, helping him navigate the challenges of life with a developmental disability.
How Self-Direction Changed Our Lives
When we discovered the OPWDD self-direction program, it transformed our family’s world. Self-direction gave Jacob the ability to live more independently, pursue his passions, and connect with the community in ways we never thought possible. Seeing the life-changing impact this program had on Jacob inspired me to help other families access the same opportunities.
